Årnfelt Ramström was born in 2005, spending her childhood in both Ireland and Sweden. She has primarily engaged with the artistic side of heraldry, which means she spent most of her time with her heraldic pen in hand, emblazoning existing and designing new arms and flags for people, places and whatever else that might present itself. While her work has primarily been on the artistic front, she is not averse to learning more about heraldry and its related disciplines. Her aim is to help and learn from her peers and to bridge the gap, introducing the discipline to the younger generation, to which it might feel foreign. Mathilde says, that “as someone who is still very new on the scene I find joy in learning more about the artform and its diverse traditions and intricacies. Having started out in flag design and video game graphics I had previously looked at heraldic design but never really understood the “how’s” or “why’s”.” This was until she heard of online space discussing heraldry, of which she was instantly enamoured. Having a space where heraldry can feel engaging and entertaining for people of all ages is what got her into the discipline and it is what she seeks to continue to help foster and engage in. “I am grateful for the opportunity the Heraldic Institute has given me through this Early Career Fellowship. The combination of mentorship, publicity and the prize money is ideal for bringing my heraldic work to the next level. Thank you to Mr Brady Brim-DeForest for his generosity.” Her work is published in the Heraldic Institute 2025 Calendar.
